Diploma in
«Science and Faith»

PROGRAM DIRECTORS
Rafael Pascual, Faculty of Philosophy
Pedro Barrajón, Faculty of Theology

1. PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Diploma
in Science and Faith offers a competent
scientific-cultural approach to the urgent problems concerning
the relationship between science and faith.
To this end, it brings
together experts and resources from the Athenaeum’s three
faculties, philosophy, theology, and the new faculty
of bioethics,
as well as the direct participation of renowned guest speakers,
professors, and scientists. The lectures, conferences, seminars
and site visits integrate perspectives provided by the most up-to-date
scientific research, thereby granting a uniquely well-rounded
vision of the relationship between science and faith.
The program
addresses both the principal theoretical and practical questions
currently raised by the natural sciences, and also their concrete
applications and consequences in social, cultural and political
life. The program is designed for
students with a bachelors degree
in philosophy or theology, or professionals who have received
other university or religious studies degrees, e.g. high school
teachers, religion instructors, catechists, pastoral workers,
scientific journalists, etc.
The program is offered in a cyclic 2-year mode, which makes
it possible for students to register at the start of any semester.
Each semester of the cycle includes a four-hour afternoon session
every week, plus some additional activities. A diploma attesting
to the specialization in the area of science and faith is awarded
upon completion of the 2-year cycle.
Further information is available in the Athenaeum’s Annual
Study Program, on the Athenaeum’s website www.upra.org.
