Obesity, a serious problem

Obesity has become a constant problem all over the world and in the United States; the problem of excess weight gain is topping the charts. The problem of obesity is causing many grave heart-related diseases. People of all ages are the victim of this weight gain in the United States. According to the National Centre for Health Statistics from the 2015-16 survey, it is estimated that in the United States, about 9.8% of adults over the age of 20 and above are overweight. But obesity is turning rapidly towards children in the United States and that is alarming. If we break it down a little more, it is estimated that in men in the U.S., obesity is most prevalent in men aged 50 to 54 (80%) and in women between the age of 60 to 64 (73%).

According to a professor of Global Health at IHME, Dr. Ali Mokdad, obesity is a growing and unmonitored problem in the US today. He further added that this public health epidemic needs to be stopped before it causes even more damage than it already has done to date.
